The Synod of Lakes and Prairies will be hosting a virtual gathering to address financial opportunities to help congregations, camps and other church related organizations at this time of need. Among other things we will talk about the guidelines for paying for sick leave that now apply to churches and hourly workers. We will also look at the loan program designed to help pay employees in which the loans will be forgiven if the employees are still your employees at the of June. This is designed to be an opportunity to share information as well as reach out to those who are losing sleep over financial realities.
Our great concern is keeping staff employed and paid. We already know churches who are having “lay off” conversations to address their financial anxiety as well as pastors who are asking in online forums if they should offer to take pay cuts. We also know that many pastors simply don’t have the time to dig into the new regulations that could actually provide assurance and aid.
